hair loss woman

Hair loss is well known in men, but 40% of hair loss patients are women. The average person is born with about 100,000 hair follicles on the head. As we age and as hormones change, we can lose hair.

There are many potential factors that cause hair loss: age, scalp infections, psoriasis, medications, hormone imbalances, thyroid disease, poisons, chemotherapy, immune disease, medications, vitamin and mineral deficiencies, friction, hair pulling, tight hair styles and more.

Treatments to prevent and recover hair loss are available. These treatments are useful in the earlier stages of hair loss. Long standing hair loss may require more expensive transplantation of hair, but early treatments are well worth it.

Hair treatments we use include scalp microneedling, PRP – platelet rich plasma scalp injections, IV vitamin and mineral supplementation, light treatments, OTC (over-the-counter) and prescription medications.

Magic occurs for some people when Phytotress products are compounded with known hair restoration medications. These can be customized to your particular situation. Medications include Caffeine, Clobetasol, Dutasteride, Finasteride, Fluocinolone,
Ketoconazole, Latanoprost, Minoxidil, Spironolactone and Tretinoin. However, these products do not help all patients with alopecia areata.

There are two medications that are FDA approved for alopecia areata. They are very expensive. They are Litfulo (ritlecitinib) and Olumiant (baricitinib). The manufacturers have assistance programs that may be available to you. We can prescribe the medication and help you through the approval process.

Hair loss treatment does make a difference. The difference can be made for you.

We have available TrichoTest , a unique genetic assay for genetic variants contributing to hair loss. The test analyzes for 48 genetic variations or SNPs – single nucleotide polymorphisms (pronounced “snips”). The test is non-invasive, only requiring a swab of your cheek and completion of a questionnaire. Results are usually available in 7 days. Dr. Logan will then discuss with you the results and be able to give you a customized, scientific approach to b or restoring your hair. Cost: $360
