A graphic of the goddess Ixchel

Ixchel (eesh chel) was and is a Mayan goddess. The exact nature of all her roles in traditional Mayan culture is not known exactly. She has been described as a goddess of midwifery, medicine, fertility, rain, war, the moon. She was a wife, a mother of 13 sons, a jaguar goddess and, as such, a fearsome warrior.

She is depicted as a young, sensual woman or as an aged, ugly woman.

In her younger version, she was reputed to have “opalescent skin”. This, with her medical powers, is why Ixchel was selected for the name of our medical Spa.
